On one of the other forums, I read a few posts knocking the 375 Winchester and the Big Bore. Specifically, the main issues according to those commenting were inherent inaccuracy of the round and the rifle and the "uselessness" of the cartridge. I suspect most were people that had no direct experience with it. I just bought a like new BB in 375 and from what I read, it will do quite a few things well. With it's muzzle velocity a person should be able to reach out 175 yards with a good tang or Williams sight and it has the muscle to put down just about everything in North America. No, it is not a 400 yard antelope gun but who cares. I would like to hear from some of you that have had experience with both the rifle and the cartridge.

There is nothing inherent to the cartridge itself that would render it inaccurate. It could be that Winchester misread its potential uses and equipped their rifles with an improper rifling twist rate. It could also be that users attempted to reload much heavier bullets than are factory loaded with a resulting drop in accuracy. I see the .375 Win. as a potent woods cartridge suitable for anything in North America.

I have no experience with that cartridge in that rifle. I do, however, have experience with M'94 BB rifles in other chamberings, and have a Marlin lever gun in .375 Win. I find both the rifles and the cartridge perform just fine, ragardless what the "experts" say. For a short-to-medium range woods rifle for deer and black bear, I'd be quite content hunting the rest of my life with a .375 Win.

I have had 6 big bore 94s in 375 win.I have loaded from 200 to 300 gr fmj bullets in it.I like AA1680 powder the best.I have shot the 220 gr hornady up to 2400 fps.I like the 325 gr speer bullets. They are the best one shot or first shot bullets in my gun.I have shot alot of 1" groups with them at 100 yards.I really like reloading the 375 win.Dont under estimate it.I know quite a few people who have taken moose and a few grizzlewys with it.Its as good or better than a 30-06 when loaded to the top as far as energy goes. Its the little enmgine that could.I will always use it as long as I have brass and bullets. Its way better than any 30-30 ever made.I have shot some decient groups at 300 yards with the 235 gr speer bullers.J.D. Jones shot elephants with the 375 jdj pistol which is about the same balistics as the 375 winchester in a rifle.I haver both the 375 win an d the 375 jdj and like the 375 win alot better.

I've had one for several years and I love it. I don't see how anyone could describe it as useless??? Sure, it's potential uses could also be performed by any number of cartridges, but that's true for ANY cartridge. I like it because it has a good balance of bullet weight, caliber, and velocity. As far as I'm concerned it's an ideal choice for short-mid range deer, black bear and even elk. Like most other folks that shoot it, I've had great luck with the Hornady 220 and AA1680. RL7 will give better accuracy in most guns, but will give up a little velocity to AA1680. Don't forget they are great cast bullet shooters too. I would love to find a Marlin 375 to scope and use the Hornady 220, and make my Winchester strictly a cast bullet shooter.

I've written this before so here it is again: History: Over the last Decade I have owned and traded nearly 40 lever action 375's and I wish I had EVERYONE OF Them BACK!!! In Western Nebraska, Sandhills a hunter can take a shot at 5 yards or 1,000 yards. It just so happened one year that there were Two other hunters with me. I needed a meat Deer. I spotted a Doe up hill and away from me. She started to saunter across the side of a hill. I put the front bead on her and the bead hid her, so I raised the bead to see a sliver of light and as she slowly started to quarter away I raised the sight a bit more and squeezed off the shot from my Winchester lever action BB using a 200 grain SP. Her left hind leg kicked out like she had a spasm but she kept walking. I new I had hit her. I started walking and counting steps. I """quit""" counting AFTER THREE HUNDRED! I still had another 100 yards to go before I found her. The bullet passed thru her body and lodged under the skin on the right front shoulder! I had a Marlin 375 that shot a 3-shot group, open sights at 100 marked off yards into a group smaller than a quarter!

I have a Contender carbine barrel in .375 and a Marlin .375. I once owned a Big Bore 94 in .375 but never liked the rifle. There is nothing wrong with the cartridge but your bullets choices are limited.
