I have a 1950s vintage savage 99 in .308. Its a real nice hunting rifle. I can get Moa with 150 grain Speers , quite easy. It has an old Bushnell scope chief 2.5x8 on it now. It was a great scope in its day and i plan to use it hunting this year. But scopes today are so much better. I would just stick a VX3 2x7 on it if it came in gloss, but i want something in that power range , But something that looks at home on an old rifle. Any suggestions...tj3006

Thanks p dog , #x9s are a little to bulky for this rifle. but the .1.25x6 might be great.!

If it ain't broke don't be fix'en it is always good advise.. I like 1.5x5, 1x4X, 3X, 4X, or a 2x7x28 Leupolds on my 99s..I guess the 3X is my favorite on my .308 99F, as it fits a saddle scabbard. I like that early 2x7x28 Leupold on my TD 250-3000. About my only demand in 99 Scopes is they must be compact, The 99s a stream lined gun and big bulky scope turn me off..Not just on 99s but any gun I own. I am with you ray, A low power variable no bigger than a 2x7by33 for me. I been getting tons of overtime and got a decent raise too , so i might splurge foe a vx3 1.25 x 6 or 2.5x8...tj

I would look at the Leupold 1.75 to6x, or the Leupold 2.5 to 8. And I must say that I much prefer the Heavy Duplex Reticle in those scopes. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
