I wish Marlin would come out with 3 new calibers based on either the 45-70 or .348 Win. case that is as long as possible for their 1895 action. I want to see .35, .375 and .411 calibers. I want tough, heavy jacketed bullets loaded in the following weights. 250 grains for the .35 caliber, 270 grains for the .375 caliber and 350 grains for the .411 caliber. These guns should have a half round half octagon 22" Ballard barrel, a full length magazine tube and a good piece of walnut. I am a 45-70 fan but, I feel these calibers would fill a gap in what is currently available in modern lever guns. The .35 and .411 would also digest cast pistol bullets. I would buy one of each! Of course they should call these new rounds the "Alaskan Express" in caliber...

Max length used in current 1895 action is 2.55 overall. A good gunsmith can stretch it a bit farther. Marlin did make a few .356 and .375 winchester rifles. They did not sell and were discontinued, you could probably find a used one of them.

My vote would be to ressurect the 38-56WCF.
That in MODERN solid head 45-70 brass necked down and loaded to Marlin pressures would be a bigger more ferocious
version of the 375win/35-55Win.

Remember that the 38-56 IS a "necked down" 45-70

Gary Reeder builds a 416 caliber and a 458 caliber based on either the 348 win case or the 50 Alaskan case, in the Marlin rifles. Called the 416GNR and 450GNR. My new 450GNR full custom on a Marlin stainless guide gun is at the UPS depot and will be delivered any day now. He will do the 50 Alaskan also but I wanted power AND bullet selection. 450GNR = 450gr bullets @ 1900+ fps in a very short barrel.

I would like a 375 based off of the 338 ME case, and possibly a .411 also.

270gr in the 375 and 300gr in the .411

You really don't want to know my thoughts on "improved" cartridges...

Most are mental masterbation on the part of those "improving" them, and tha't the kindest
thing I can say...

Lever rifles are about another "silly" tendency; nostalgia.

I think if you can choose to have a lever rifle you can stick to "Traditional" or historical chamberings.

There is ONE "improved" chambering I see a purpose for... the 30-06 improved, and then only to squeeze a few more grains of RL22 in behind a 165gr bullet. if you use any other propellant you are pissing into the wind...
