I'm thinking a 300-grain Nosler at 1400 out of my Rossi 92 would be fairly capable on deer and hogs at iron-sight ranges. I almost never hear any chatter about this kind of load. Anyone here "been there, done that"?

I was going to shoot my hard cast 315gr WFN out of my Ruger 96 but they well not feed through the mag.

I thought about turning the nose down a hair so they would feed but haven't done it yet.

I did get 1550 out of them with my 14 inch contender barrel.

I haven't got around to trying any jacketed 300 gr. bullets

At 1400 they well kill just fine.

I have taken several mule deer with my 1892 Winchester (Miroku) with a 300 gr Hornady XTP Mag at 1400 fps muzzle velocity. Haven't replicated them with handloads yet.

I've used W296 for such loads but at a higher velocity (around 1550 fps) and I generally use cast pills.

I found accuracy to be better at higher velocity. It also shoots to a much higher POA than a 240 gr load.

If you've never used it before W296 and its twin, H110, are two powders that you don't reduce charges below published levels. Hodgdon list loads on their site.

I have a load with 300 gr XTP's for my 44 mag M92 Rossi that shoots fairly good.

THESE LOADS ARE SAFE IN MY FIREARM, CONSULT A RELOADING MANUAL BEFORE USING. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
My load is in the Lyman Manual,
I use 20 gr of H110 and a 300 gr XTP bullet for roughly 1325 fps.

Bout the same as Steve E. Use 20.5 gr of H110 over a 300 gr WFNGC Castcore out of my Trapper. Very accurate and hits hard. Both my SBH's like them too. Plus got good results with the 300 gr YTP and Nosler JHP.
