Picked up a Ranch Hand in .44 Magnum last week. While i like the idea of a nice handy little carbine, i wasn't to sure how my shooting ability would be with that cutoff buttstock. I picked up a full size buttstock, inletted where it had to be inletted and refinished the original forestock and finished the buttstock to match.... Now i have a Rossi 1892 Trapper style with a barrel that is 12" overall length that i am pretty happy with. Smiler I'm in Canada. Perfectly legal up here as the firearm is purchased as a Non Restricted rifle up here. Its legal for me to add a full length buttstock.
Will be shooting the 265 grain Hornady that my Marlin .444 shoots. So far it cycles my dummy rounds like snot on glass. Big Grin

Leverboy, I have an original Winchester trapper with a 16 inch barrel that I like very much, but I have thought about doing exactly the same thing you did on your Ranch rifle! However it will involve getting a federal permit at the tune of $250 before I can add that full butt stock on it here in the USA. Here this is listed as a handgun, and to add the stock without the permit is illegal. I'm still thinking about biting the bullet and getting the Federal permit!

Nice little set-up you have there. I use my Trapper for following bear, and lion dogs in New Mexico, and Arizona, and it works fine but the little jewel you cobbled together would be very nice as well.

Mac - the fed tax is only $200(SBR). Plus whatever a dealer will charge to handle the paperwork for the "remodeling".

And well there should be such a tax, as these items are such a threat to the security of the republik.

I find it funny that the $200 tax stamp was meant to be prohibitively expensive at the time it was introduced but it has never been raised.

Don't laugh too hard. An effort is currently underway to jack that price up for the very reason you mention.
