This is not directly responsive to your inquiry, but I have been shooting the 300 gr. Barnes X and also the 300 gr. Hawk in an 1885 which I think has a longer barrel than the 95's. In any event, the ammo is loaded by Conley Precision, and is running around 2450 at the muzzle. At this velocity, the Hawk's cloverleaf at 100. Believe it or not, this gun/load are legal in MS for 'primitive weapon' season on whitetails Cool. As you can imagine that load will do quite a number on both hogs and whitetails. Cheers.

Winchester 1895, current production. Picked it up at Sportsman's Warehouse in Idaho Falls for a steal!! I think it was mismarked!

I am shooting 56.0 IMR 3031 with the Hornady FP at 2250 fps (I think that's the velocity).

Excellent accuracy and I have taken a gemsbok, warthog, and zebra with it in Africa and did my spring bear hunting with it. No bears yet, but fall season is coming and I plan on using it for elk this year too.

I frickin' love this rifle!!!!!

NE 450 No2.....When you get around to shooting those 326gr.GC bullets would you please post your results?..I hope to get a mold for my .405 this winter and think the 325gr range would be perfect for this cal....

Tony; I have only loaded the 300 gr. X bullet. I tried H4895 and had best accuracy at 54.5 grains. I also tried Varget, but the H4895 was more better. At 54.5 grains I averaged 2175 fps with 1/2 MOA. 55 grains started to open up on me.

With Hornady factory ammo I had excellent accuracy and was about 75 fps faster in both the spire point and the flat nose. (2250)

But I chose to hunt with the X for more better bone crunching penetration.

I sold my 1895 last Christmas to Greyghost and boy do I regret it. Still have the Encore in 405 though.

Popped a whitetail with it and when the rifle came down after recoil, all I could see in the scope was 4 hooves in the air pointing to the sky.

Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

Low Wall
Will do. My plan is to start out with 40 grains of IMR 3031 and work up or down untill I have an accurate load that hits with my full power loads out to say 50 yards or so that I can use for plinking, practice, and small game.
Also prairie dogs the next time I visit NFMike.
