I live in a country (Argentina) where no proper powder nor ideal bullets can be found mainly due to the political times we are living here Mad .. so we have to get the best use of what we have the luck to find ... I am finishing my last can of 3031 so I do not want to spend much powder in tests ...

BTW, I have some 2400 which I am thinking to try in my rifle (a 1895 SS) ... I know that the reccomended loads vary from 24 grs to 41.5 grs ... anyone knows the aprox mv velocity I might achieve with the top load? (Rem 9 1/2 primers and a local bullet that weights 315 grs)

Just curious ...

I wonder if anyone can share any experience you might have concerning this powder, used for 45/70 reloads, pushing a 300 gr (actually mine willbe a 315 gr) bullet...

Thank you all in advance

I've haved used 2400 with good results, using a 300 HP, in my Marlin 1895. I have an old Sierra manuel that shows 2400 as one of the powders they used in working up loads. I used 37 grains of it for close to 1900 fps. Not close to their max. but hot enough for me. As in all reloading approach any suggested loads with discretion. These loads are listed for use in only Marlin 1895 and Ruger single shot 45/70 rifles.

Thank you, STexhunter ...

I have quite few cans of 2400 and want to maximize this limited supply as much as possible, thus I want to start testing my reloads as near as possible to reccomended max charges... looking something that might give me at least some 1900 fps (MV) for the mentioned bullet... and your 37 grs seems appropiate thumb!

I'm shooting a .45-60 with a 335 grain gas check bullet on a .452 groove barrel and 2400 powder. I've increased the charge to the point I don't want the recoil in my light highwall. There have been a variety of "sweet" spots where accuracy has been outstanding, especially at 18 grains (about 1100 fps). Phil Sharpe lists 27.4 grains of 2400 as max with a 405 grain bullet in a trapdoor @ 24, 000 psi. ned

Can you get Reloader7 there?

RL7 is one of the very best propellants in the 45-70 with 300gr bullets.

I wish it would, but no R7 is available in here ... supposedly there is a big amount of various types of Reloader (including R7) had arrived some time ago, but the government won't let its selling, arguing every nonsense theye might imagine

The only trustable powder that can be still found (and looking quite hard) is 2400 ... I have some canisters and would buy a couple more, since it appears no good powder will arrive to Argentina for a looooooooong time....

Anther option is local powder, which differs too much in between production periods, so it is my last choice, just when it is that or nothing...
