Hi all,

This is my first post and I'd like to introduce myself. I've been shooting for several years and mostly collect surplus military bolt actions. I am a graduate student studying early childhood infectious diseases.

I recently took the plunge into lever guns. I bought a Rossi R92 in 44 mag and it is pretty cool. It's been shooting about 2.5" at 50 yds. with the supplied open sights. I plan on using this fall to hunt (also for the first time).

Speaking of hunting, if there are any hunters in the NC Triangle, I'd love to get some tips from you. I've never hunted ever, and sure could use some advice.

Again, just like to say hi. Feel free to ask me about what I study or what I collect.

Best,

Brad

Welcome. We were talking about deer hunting with .44 Mag lever guns this weekend at the lease. There were several folks that have used them successfully for deer hunting in the past. Good luck with it!

This subject has been discussed at length on the Leverguns.com forum and there are a lot of folks there shooting and hunting with the clone 1892. You might try your post there and be prepared for a lot of responses.
My 1892 .357 has taken deer, but it is a converted original Winchester, not a clone, so I cannot help further with this one.

Brad,

Welcome and glad you are getting into shooting and hunting.

I cut my teeth literally on a Winchester 92 in 25-20. The 92 is the smoothest lever action and lots of fun. I have killed lots of deer with a Browning model 92 in 44 mag and Rossi 45 Long Colt. The Rossi stays in my truck between the seat and console for whatever I need it for. I have a good collection of 92's. Great guns for close range.

Feel free to PM me for advice on hunting Whitetail in your area. I live in NC half way between Wil and Fay.

Welcome

I too have a R92 but mine is a 45 Colt

I was suprised how much fun it is.

I use a upgraded open sight and it is really my first time to use Open sights on a rifle, I have always used Peep sights.

It is very accurate at 50yrds... never shot past that
