Anyone ever shoot a "shotshell" thru a lever action? I assume that you can NOT load them from the "tube" but would "open the lever and stick the round in the chamber" work? DRSS & Bolt Action Trash

Such notions have been discussed here http://forums.accuratereloadin...=179108293#179108293 and elsewhere http://shootersforum.com/showthread.htm?t=9490 Even if shooting a 2-1/2 inch 410 shotshell in a 45/70 is not unsafe I can't imagine the rifling does much for the pattern. Others have played with making shotshells from 45/70 cases, which ought to be safer though no more likely to pattern well. As for feeding through the action a fella can buy a Winchester 94 or a Marlin 336 repeater chambered for the 410 shotshell, but he can buy a NEF Pardner Compact for an awful lot less.

Whether or not shooting shotshells in lever action rifles is OK, it must be noted that there are a number of lever action shotguns that have appeared. Ther is Winchester's 9410 -- a Model 94 Winchester made in .410. There is Marlin's Model 410 lever action shotgun. John Browning made the 1887 Winchester lever action shotgun for black powder loads; it was later redesigned for smokeless powder but was available in only 10 gauge. Interstate Arms Co. has redesigned Browning's 1887 as the IAC Model 87W in 12 gauge. See this article by Wikipedia for more info on lever action shotguns: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_1887 _____________ "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"
