Probably a Henry but I'm open for suggestions. Pistol calibers (.357, .44Mag, .327 etc). Looking at a Winchester at Sportsmans Warehouse that sounds ideal except for the $2000+ price tag. At 82 I'm not looking to hunt or for punishing recoil just plinking for fun. Please PM if you know of or have one. I can post some more detail unless you guys think this is a dumb post. I like the Marlin 1892. I have 4 of them in .32 H&R, .32-20, .357, and .45 Colt. They are accurate and fun to shoot. I don't know what they cost now, other than my .32 H&R is really expensive. I also have two Model 39As in .22 that I really enjoy. The .22s are just as much fun and much cheaper to shoot. If you can find a Browning lever action in .22 LR, they are also fun.

I have a Rossi M92 in .357 Mag. that shoots great with both jacketed and cast lead bullets. Action was a little stiff at first but it smoothed out pretty quick. A handy little rifle that I would like to take deer hunting but the eye sight is no longer up to the task! Hip

nuther rossi guy here. get you some 125gr bullets and enjoy. skinner makes a nice peep sight that is easy to see through, and it helps focus the front sight for us guys that use cheater glasses to read.

If you can find one, a Browning Model 92. They are very nice. I have one in 44 mag.

For what you need I would second trying to find a Browning B-92, but in 357. There are several examples on Gunbroker at present. These have none of the drawbacks of later production Winchesters. The other rifle you might want to consider is a levergun in 22LR, like a Marlin 39A. My favourite model is the 39A Golden Mountie. Both these rifles have a well deserved reputation for build quality and accuracy.

Agree on the Browning version of the 92. Another one to consider in .357 is the Marlin 1894. Very slick little rifle. Roger ___________________________ I'm a trophy hunter - until something better comes along. *we band of 45-70ers*

if your only shooting factory ammo the B-92's are nice rifles. if you can stand the gloss. they will not feed anything over the .610 saami length, and they do like larger diameter bullets. I got the swaging stuff to prove it. they work as expected, the Jap's make nice guns.

I have B-92’s in 44 and 357. Like the Marlin microgroove 44’s, the B-92 in 44 prefers larger diameter cast pills but works fine with factory jacketed pills. When it comes to cast, the shallow rifling needs a little more diameter to hang on to. It’s no big deal once you know what you’re doing. You can blame that on SAAMI, as the specs for 44mag pistol and rifle are so far apart you’d think they were two different cartridges. The B-92 in 357 is totally different - it has a fast twist and deeper rifling. It works well with either jacketed or cast. Regarding the loaded length, that can be altered by some feed work but works fine with SAAMI length ammo.

For just plinking Id go for a more affordable option such as a 22 LR..that other stuff is useless for plinking, and not much better or affordable for hunting. IMO/ 82 is midlife if your healthy go get a 30-30 or 25-35 and go hunt deer from a stand or whatever would suit you..
