I'm in need of some adult supervision. I'm thinking serious about buying one of the '92 clones in .357 Mag. Anything I should look for? Any suggestions? Rossi-Puma? EMF Hartford 1892? Hope to stay with the under $500 versions.

Would like to hear from those who shoot these.

I've seen some EMF's that were a bit shy on quality control. The Puma 92's are a better buy I have 2 a .356 and a 454 casull. Bought them both new paid about $300 for the .357 and $350 for the 454. I've been loading the 454 to hot 45-70 range balistics and it's had about 1500 to 2000 rounds through it and it's as tight and accurate as new. The 357 has had a lot more rounds through it, my grand kids love it, and it's as good as new.
That's my opinion.

I have a Rossi in 45 Colt. After fire lapping the barrel I could not be more pleased.

Expect to have feeding problems with the 1892/1894 in .357/38. It is easy to adjust, but I know of several that would not feed without a new carrier, or at least some fiddeling around.

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?

The EMF are the best buy I think. I got one in .45 Colt through Steve Young of Steve's Gunz. Price was excellent and this is with a CAS "race ready" tuning. In comparison with other guns which were untuned this is a gem. Steve is well known among the CAS crowd and is honest and does good work.

The .357 Mag in the carbine is a dandy and very versatile. I think you'd like this gun in .357 Mag.

Sincerely,

Hobie
