Marty50-110 loads
Well, I bought a new style (tang safety) 1886 over on Gunbroker. Turnbull converted it to 50-110, with a 26 inch barrel. It came with dies, and I found some Starline brass at Grafs.
There is rather a dearth of loading data for this cartridge. I don't yet know the twist rate of the barrel.
Can anyone provide any loading data and suggestions? Are there ant bullet molds available?

jens poulsenHi Marty.
There are many bulletsmolds available.
NEI Handtools, Texas has a .512cal GC 435grain that specificly adress to a .50-110WCF.
http://www.neihandtools.com/catalog/index.html Gayle Brook does a dandy job too..Just ask.
http://brooksmoulds.com/ Woodleigh bullet from Australia also do a 500grain bullet for the .50ex WCF.

NONAGONAGINContact Doug Turnbull for the twist.
The 50-10 has about 110-115 gr H2O capacity according to my sources so weigh a few of your cases to see the actual weight. My 50-90 Jamison cases have 110 gr H2O weighed volume so you can use 50-90 data by starting 20% below beginning 50-90 loads and work up.
The 50-110 Winchester IS a slightly different case just slightly smaller than the 50-90 but as long as you don't get magnumitise and want to hit the highest notes, the data is pretty much interchangeable.
In that levergun you will hit the recoil limit probably long before you hit to max load.
Accuratemolds...
http://accuratemolds.com/... and... Mountain Moulds...
http://www.mountainmolds.com/... are two other mold makers I have molds from. The do CNC moulds but I find no problems with either maker.
Congrats...enjoy that new toy...Wish I could afford one!!!

NONAGONAGINForgot to add...Get a 20 dollar subscription to Ammo Guide...there is some data you can use on the 50-110 and also some of the other 100 gr H2O similar cartridges.
I need to get a discount next time I re-up for all the leg work I'm doing for AG...Hahahahahaha

MartyI have some 450gr Barnes Originals coming, as well as some Cast Performance 525gr bullets. Mike at Grizzly Cartridge was super helpful.
I have belonged to AmmoGuide for years, and on the suggestion of Ty from Barnes joined Load Data.
Interestingly, Barnes has not developed load data for their 450gr Original!
I have a mold coming from NEI as well.
I've been getting a lot of help with my science project.

NONAGONAGINOOOOhhhh...I LIKE the CP 525's. I'm playing with some right now in a 50-70...turned the nose just in front of the crimp groove to 0.499" as a bore rider so I can seat them out a bit farther and also will add a brass pointy tip and see if that helps the BC for my "SHUSH" subsonic project.

cal pappasSeems I recall Elmer Keith writing of 65 grains of 3031 and a 450-grain bullet. I used that load in my '86s in my single barrel days. Very stout load and I would guess it would suit anyone for brown bear or buffalo.

Yes he did, but Elmer did it long before although SW did more with the smaller calibers. I had a signed first edition of Snooky's book but sold it when I discarded my Win. collection.

FireCaptainI have a Turnbull converted Win/Browning 1886 with a 22" barrel. I am using Starline brass, LR Federal Match primer, 62.0 grains of IMR 3031 with a Cast Performance 435 bullet. With this load, I was able to achieve 3 shot 3/4" groups at 50 yards. With lower charges of 3031, I was getting hangfires and noticed unburnt powder in the snow ahead of the barrel. Groups opened up when I went to 63 and 64 grains.
