my 1959 ish Savage 99 got some new glass. I put a Leopold VX2 2X7 on it. One of the last of the VX2s. As the line has been replaced with the VX freedom series. The scope will be great on this Rifle, i had been using a old Bushnell scope chief 2.5x8. A good scope but nothing like a modern one. I was disappointed, in that i had to change mounts. I had the same old weaver set up that came on the rifle , but damned if the new scope didn't bottom out adjustment on the elevation. I could zero the 40 year old Bushnell , with room to spare , same with a 150 dollar Nikkon pro staff. But the 300.00 Leopold ran out of adjustment using my lazer bore sighter. I put a 1 piece leupold base on it with low rings problem solved. worked great, got it dialed in with lots of room to spare. This old 99f is just a great rifle. It loves a Speer 150 grain flat base over W-748. puts 3 into well under an inch. But it heats up quick and the groups open up. I think its my favorite deer rifle. I back off max loads by about 1,5 grains just cause the rifle is as old as i am. 59 next month , and like it i can still do the job if i am careful. ...tj3006 | ||

I have one also and I use 48 grs. of 748 under a 150 gr. bullet..The speer is a favorite..Mine is a .308 but it came in a 300 Savage also, either of which is an excellent deer rifle, and both work on elk also..I have a leupold M8 4X fixed..It shoots an inch average.. I glass bedded the forend and butt stock, got more accuracy and more consistency by a good deal...Been my saddle gun for 50 or so years. BTW, I have another that I purchased from you and its really accurate and is fast becoming a favorite of mine.
