I have a model 94 save queen that needs to be scoped. I am looking for a 1-4 power compact scope to mount on it. I am !looking for something reasonably priced of good quality.
Any ideas?

Check out the line from Leupold, they have just the power you are looking for. I had one on a 35 Rem Mdl 336 and it seemed perfect for it.

I use the 2x8 x33 Leupold. Small, light and good optics. The gun still balances and handles like it should.

I would use a discontinued Leupold 3X, they are a bit costly these days, but its the perfect scope for any lever gun IMO...

It has been awhile, I did finish up this project just in time to miss this years deer season. I am 11 months ahead for next year.
I bought a Leupold 2.5x20 ultralight. And got it mounted up with weaver mounts.
All in all I have to say this is going to be a handy rig for strolls through the wood lot.

I use the Leopold 1-4 HOG scope same size as the others mentioned and you get a article you can see in dim light.

I have the non-lighted Hog scope on my 30-06 I can't tell you how much I enjoy it on my Cz 550 carbine. Once I saw the ultralight have knew it was the way to go.

you picked the perfect scope for a 30-30, it can't utilize more power than that or at least it won't be life changing not to have more Xs..Its handy, has a wide field of view, clear and 2.5X holds better for off hand shooting, the more power the more wiggle you need to deal with..won lots of money shooting my 2.5 and 3X off hand against 6Xs and up, the more ups the easier to beat them..I might go 4X on a 300 savage or lever 308..

So, I finally made it the range today with this rig. I have a load of 23.5 grains of IMR 4198 with a 170 grain FP. Groups at a hundred yards were 1.5-2 inches. Frankly I believe that the rifle is capable of better groups, if I'm up to it .

I prefer a peep or receiver sight on the slow velocity brush guns, but I had a 7/8s tube, 2.5X Leupold Alaskan on my Marline 30-30 carbine for awhile and really liked it..I wish Leupold would reinstate that scope as they now bring $450 on the market if you can even find one..I think they will put one together in their custom shop or so Im told ut at high dollar!! that scope today rests on my RJ Remmer (Ruger) custom in 7x57, and its there to stay.

I have one of these in the .444 Marlin Timber Carbine version that just refused to shoot. After burning up some ammo and switching scopes, I re- crowned the muzzle and suddenly had an accurate rifle.

1.5 to 2 inch groups for a 94 is all they will do. Unless you get very lucky. And that is plenty; they aren't prairie dog rifles.

If you really want to learn about how good any brand of lever action rifle shoots, especially with cast bullet (with by the way are exceptionally accurate), go over to the Castboolits.com forum. Now I'm not going to mention names, but lever actions with receiver sights and scopes shoot really good with cast bullets. I have a friend that shoots a 336 Marlin 30-30 with cast and his best group was 1/2 inch at 100 yards with cast and at velocity. I have a 32 Special Winchester with an old 1.5x Weaver on it that will do 1 inch at 100 yards with cast. When I lived in another state then I do now I shot groundhogs with a Winchester 94 Trapper with the short barrel in 45 Colt with receiver sight quite easily and my longest shot was about 200 yards. Was younger then and my eye were better. The bullet was a RCBS cast 255 grain SWC. It did the groundhogs in pretty well.

The important thing with a scoped leveraction is how you rest that front forearm when benching it and sighting it in. Never set it directly down on what you normal use for a front rest. Instead set your off hand down and grasp the forearm and you'll get better groups.
