When buying a Marlin 336 is the fact that the 336A has a forend cap instead of the regular forend barrel band a consideration? I see that the xlrs use the cap instead of the band.

Animal,

The only comment that I have is this: I have shot and loaded for several Marlins over the years and found that the ones with Bbl. bands would sometimes shoot better if I messed with the tension of the band itself. Found this to be true on some Ruger 10/22's also. Just food for thought.

the Marlins with the barrel bands will usually let the barrel heat up without creating tension against the magazine tube, thus not having POI issues as the barrel expands due to heat.
