Well, we definitely know that it was manufactured after 1955. Is the rotary magazine spool aluminum? It also appears from the photo that is a pressed checkering. Is there any markings in front of the receiver on the barrel other than "Model 99"?

My best guestimate would indicate that it could be a late model 99F; manufactured in the late 60's to 1971 range. I'm no expert, but love the gun. I hope this helps.

Please see the attached site; if you enter the exact serial number it should give you the year it was made. Best regards.

Recv has Savage 99 and below it -Series A- 22" Barrel
No Barrel letter? Did all DL series have a Monte Carlo Stock?
It has a Walnut stock, lots of varnish was gone refinished in oil.
Mag spool is aluminnum.

It looks like you have answered part of your question (99A recent production 71-81). Did you type in the serial number on the attached site to get the year manufactured?

I believe rifle is either a late model F without
barrel boss. Or a DL not marked with a std. stock.
The year of manufacture did not come up on the
site. Its not a A because of 22"barrel length &
Pistol Grip.

You may be correct and it could be a late model 99F. See the attached link.

The Blue Book of Gun Values does list a 20" and 22" barrel for the 99A recent production guns though, and no mention of the DL having anything other than a Monte Carlo stock.

It is a Savage DL....Some have the DL stamped on the left side receiver ring...It could also be a late 99E just before Savage caved in...A lot of mixture guns were produced from parts during the last of the 99s...
