Ever have the unlucky rifle. My wife bought me a 1895 winchester about three years ago, I wanted it mostly as a wall hanger, didn't mean to hunt with it much. Well the darn thing shot so good, the action is smooth as butter, and I really liked the darn thing. Trouble was I couldn't kill anything with it. Shot at one hog the first yr I got it, pretty darn sure I hit it but never found it. Missed a doe deer at 100 yds or so right at dusk, and crippled another.

Figured out that I couldn't see the tiny gold bead at twilight so debated what to do about the sights. Thought about scoping the thing, with a scout setup, but ended up puting a thick fiber optic frontsight and a williams receiver.

I was pretty satisfied with that arrangement and hunted hard with it last year, and never saw any shootable game with it except one doe deer that saw me first, and got no shot. Still I killed 5 deer and 6 hogs with rifles during the deer season, but nothing with the jinx rifle.

That is until this afternoon, maybe the jinx is off.

If you were Alibi Ike you would have told it this way - " The gun is still a jinx ,I aimed at an absolutily monster pig but the gun missed and I accidentely got this little one " dancing

Nice rifle and nice hog. Looks like the jinx is broken.
I have an 1895 TD in .405 that looks a lot like your rifle, even down to the receiver sight. The only hog that I shot with it dropped on the spot. It has also taken pronghorn, water buffalo, nilgai, and is going to SA next year for cape buffalo and waterbuck.
Now the jinx is broken, you should have great success with it.

Thanks for your responses. CR looks like you're rifle has had more work than mine. I would love to hunt SA one day. I'd also like to have a 1895 in .405, must be a great combination.

The 1895s kind of grow on you.

Let your wife know that her next gun gift to you should be a Winchester 1895 in .405 WCF.
The 1895 .405 Deluxe above was from my wife "because it is pretty and will appreciate".
She was correct on both counts! Cool

Beautiful rifles both but specially the Deluxe, alas all my extra money is going into a hunting fishing camp, don't think the wife will come through right now, even though your wife is correct "it's pretty and will appreciate."
