I bought some LeverEvolution 45/70 ammo to shoot in my Marlin. It was marked MV 2050fps. It also kicks like a mule. Has this been everybodies experience?

Do you have a marlin made for shooting this type of ammo? I traded for a 45-70 XLR LeverEvolution a the gun show I have tried some loads with 250gr Sierra Pro Hunter at 1900fps & 2000fps but it did not seem to kick that much. It might be that you need a better recoil pad. A friend of mine has a older Marlin that kicked the crap out of him untill he put a Limb Saver pad on. It don't hurt any more. I am planning on trying some of the LeverEvolution but at $29.50 a box it might be a while.

I shot a moose (3rd year bull) here in Alberta on Friday. I love my Marlin 1895XLR, but was unimpressed with the bullet performance. The shot was taken at approximately 65 yards and was placed approximately one inch behind and one inch lower that the ear hole opening. The moose dropped in its tracks as expected, but I only found two small fragments; one lead and one housing. I was expecting a pass through but kind of hoping to find the bullet in one piece.

As for recoil, I initially started with 250grain federal round noses and found them not to kick at all, more of a push. The 300gr Hornady I shoot now kick a little more but IMO not bad at all for a gun launching 300 grains of lead at 2000+fps. Nothing compared to my 300 Win Mag.

I shoot the 350 grain hrnady flat nose at right about 2000. It Kicks a little but I like it.
I have shot a .375 H&H and it kicks alot harder than my marlin.
Mine has a decent factory 1 inch pad.
I want to handload the 325 grain leverution bullet to about 2150 or so when they finaly make some for us hand loaders...tj3006

I think it surprised me with the recoil. I have had two 375 H&H's. One a model 70, and a Ruger #1. However I was young then and didn't feel the recoil so much.

My 95 doesn't have much of a recoil pad, so I might put one on it or get a slipover. The leverevolution ammo did shoot 5 inches high at 150 yards (my zero on the old ammo). Might try the stuff in my ruger #1 45/70.

Actually it looks like the most improvement in ranger comes to the 35 rem, and 30-30 with the new ammo. Need me a marlin 35 rem.

I don't uinderstand the complaint about the recoil. I did not really notice a difference between my 350 grain loads at 2100fps and the 325 grain loads from the LeverEvolution ammo in my 1895S.

I did notice the difference between 300 grain 1880fps loads and the 2050fps 325 grain loads. I had heard there was a problem with the Leverevolution 45/70 load, and hornady had for a tempoary measure, downloaded them to 1880 fps. I thought that I might have some seriously overloaded ammo. Cannot remember where I read the former. Have not shot anymore. It was a clearence buy at $19.00 per box.
