I like the long-barreled lever rifles, both for asthetics and the longer sighting plane. I've been shooting iron sights only so far....like being a kid again! Can't wait until Whitetail season :-)

You should probably buy a 30" 1873 Winchester Special Sporting long range clone in 44-40. Or maybe the 24" .357 Magnum Special Sporting rifle for fun/flatter trajectory/easier and cheaper ammo acquisition.

If you can't tell, I'm itching for a lever gun, too.

I've had one for about ten or twelve years now, in 45 Colt. I am waaaaaaaaaay too lazy to lube cases, the Colt can be had in the Dillon SDB.

+1 on adding a .357 mag levergun; they are handy and deadly:

I think those 1873's are beautiful, especially the long-barreled ones.

CR Shelton, I like the trajectory of the 357 out of the carbine/rifle. Glad to see you use it for pigs, as I was thinking of the same. Only I've only seen one pig in daylight while hunting them; the rest have been at night.

Yes, a lever gun in 357 or 44 Colt would allow for lots of cheap, no-recoil range time. And 30" barrels would be the Cat's Meow :-)

Nice selection there.Two of the most fun levers I own are 38/55s.One in a Marlin CowBoy and the other in a Marlin 93 with a 28" 1/2 round half octagonal barrel and tang sight.i love shooting at gongs out to 300 yards.I use cast 260 grain boolits over Reloader seven.

OB, I've always had a hankering for a 38/55. Might make room for that :-)

Wolfie, If I got an 1895, it would be a 30-40 Krag. I still have my father's sporterized Krag he bought from the NRA in the 1930s for $4.75 as I recall. Cool caliber :-)

A mod. 95 Win. Saddle ring carbine in 30-06 is the ultimate lever rifle for hunting IMO..I had a nice on but my best friend talked me out of it..guess I need to replace it, it was the newer Win. and pretty hard to find in 06..I got mine at Spts. Whse for $1200. Shot great.

There's another one you're going to need, Jon. And you can borrow my .25-35 Tomcat reamer ...

I've owned two Browning 1895's and two Browning 1886's. Absolutely the finest lever guns I've ever seen, even though they were made in Japan.

Mike, you're right....the Brownings are certainly made well and finished nicely.
