The 38-55 and the 45-70 have beautiful bores for their age. The 45-70 shoots very well with Black Hills 405 gr Cowboy loads at 1,150 fps. That's all I'll ever shoot out of that rifle. I have other 45-70's to shoot if I want more power.

I haven't shot this 38-55 enough to develop a load but I will keep it mild.

The 30-40 shoots very well with the load I use for my Krag with 220 grain RN.

I'm working loads up now for the 405. I'll shoot 400 grain Woodleighs and Hawks at 1,900 fps. This runs about 38,000 psi. I'll hunt with this one.
