The shot was 110 yrds. The shot went through the top of the heart and he went down on his nose and then fell over. The meat and bones weighted 1115 lbs. I was with the Shoshone Production company that filmed it for a show. I am not sure which channel it will be on at this time.

The out fitter was Montana Hunting Co. owner Rob Arnaud. from Bozeman mt.
Great people and wonderful animals.

We saw a group of 3 bulls at 200 yrds that did not want anything of us even at that distance. They ran off and we followed. About a mile later and a few ridges we caught up and closed the range undetected to 110 yrds.

Used the 475 Turnbull with 400 gr Barnes TSX bullets at 2200 FPS.

Doug:

WHat are the details of your hunt such as the size of the ranch, hunt method (spot and stalk or ?), how many days, etc.

Also, tell us more about your rifle; original or modern '86, what all you did to it, etc.

Thanks,

Dave

The ranch is 113,000 acres south of Bozeman Mt.

His trophy prices are as follows.

Trophy Bull Bison - $4000
A one day hunt on the 113,000 acre Flying D Ranch includes a trophy bull of hunter's choice, in-field transportation, lunch, and in-field processing. We will also deliver the bison to a local meat processor and head to a local taxidermist. Hunter gets head, hide, and meat. Most trophies will score 65-75 SCI points. Hunts to be scheduled June, July, August, October and December.

The show was video graphed by the people from Shoshone Productions.
They also offer many other hunting options including the Magnum HUnt Club.

Stayed at a local hotel and was a short drive out to his office.
They took the meat to the local meat processor who cut and wrapped for .89 cents a lb. Very good plant to take care of your trophies, cclean curtious, taxidermist close too.

The hunt involved driving around the ranch till you saw animals. Then detemine size and couuld they be stalked. The first time we saw the bull that I got he ran off when we were 200 yrds away and did not want any thing to do with us. We cut around and went about 1 mile out of sight to where we could get close. snuck over a hill and was able to take a shot at 110 yrds, after he ran 50 yrds and stopped to look back.

First shot put him down on the spot. He stood up after about 30 seconds and I shot him again even thou there was blood coming out if his nose. We did not want him to get into the woods.

You would come in one day stay over night hunt the next day and go home the third. Great time great people and the sights are wonderful.

Used 400 gr. Barnes TSX in the 475 TUrnbull, it was an original rifle that I rebarreled with a 26" oct. full mag. take down. Restocked and sheckered in the original style that would look like a winchester. semi custom/original.

Mr. Turnbull:

That is a beautiful rifle, perhaps too beautiful to be used? But I'm glad you did.

I've seen photographs of your M1886s, some semipistol grip, some straight grip. For a heavy recoiling rifle, do you believe one grip is superior to control recoil over the other?
***
Tell me about the sling or carry strap on the rifle. It appears to affix without the rifle being altered by way of swivels or other accouterments.

If the carry strap was made by you, can you furnish details? If it was purchased, from whom?

A couple observatins
1. 400 grains at 2,200'/sec isn't exactly chickenshit.....this is serious shooting

2. How much you want to bet he don't use the hat rim as a shell catcher every day?

Of all the shooting I have done with the 475 that is about the 3rd to do it and that one was just plain lucky and got caught on film.

I will have the Barnes 350 400 TSX and 400 and 450 banded solids by friday the 15th.

Cases are in hand that are proper head stamped.
