Hello, i am looking into buying a marlin lever action model .444. Does anyone know what a new one would cost? how about a good used one? Thanks for your time, Bkmastr "It is allways better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are stupid than to open it and prove them right."

i have a .444 marlin bbl for my encore handgun and thought i'd just stay with the .444. I reload the .444 and thought it would just be better staying with one cal. I don't know anything about the 1895 45-70. Is it a lever action? thanks, Bkmastr "It is allways better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are stupid than to open it and prove them right."

It is the same basic action as the 444 Marlin.

the only things actually different between a 444 and an 1895 are the obvious, the barrel and magazine tube, different to accomodate the physically larger cartridge... And the less obvious, the larger ejection port to clear the wider rim of th 45-70cartridge and a different shell "elevator" for the fatter 45-70 cartridge. but aside from that the 1895 is, like the 444, just another Marlin 336 action.
