Hey guys. I have a stock Marlin Stainless Guide Gun in 45-70 that I would like to have worked on. Would like a trigger job, action smoothed out, feeding/extraction/reliability checked and improved, new recoil pad, ghost ring sighting system, etc... Can anyone make suggestions on a good gunsmith to send it to(preferably someone with a relatively short turn around time)? Who makes the best ghost ring set up? Any other tips/suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I like the Skinner Sights the best. Good looks, easy to install and use. Unscrew the aperture for to use as ghost ring. I leave mine in as the GG is capable of very good accuracy and the stock aperture is large enough (other sizes are available) for field work during the dark edges of the day. I think the GG is dang near perfect as is. I'd recommend getting a lot of reps with it and learning its (and your) capabilities. I know for a fact that a 425gr bullet jogging along at 1300 fps will penetrate N-S on a black Bear. Those that witnessed the kills (two) discribed the 45-70's performance as "devastating."

Get a Browning/Winchester Mod 71 or 1886 - use it as such or have it redone to the 50-100WCF and you have yourself a rfle. Vasa

One thing I would like to recommend is the big lever loop from wild west guns... The original lever was too small for my hands and it hurt to shoot the rifle... An apple a day keeps the doctor away... If you can strike me!
