Thank yall very much. I checked out that load and it looks like its for me. I have already ordered the decelerator and I am tryin to get the scope cheap off ebay. Despite all the happiness of finally joining the big bore club I have major blues. Earlier today in PE class at school at broke my wrist in a volly ball game. So shooting my new baby will have to post poned as well as my driver test

Sorry to hear about the wrist. The driving test can wait but how in the world are you going to put off shooting that baby? Maybe you could get a buddy to join you and hold the rifle against his shoulder while you aim and sqeeze with your other hand. Then you won't have to worry about the pad 'cuz he's gonna take all the recoil for you. You didn't mention if you are reloading yet but if you are you might try some of the .... No. never mind. They would be too heavy for deer. I think the Hornady are your best bet. And I agree with the Leupold choice but I am putting a 2.5 compact on mine. I just got the base and rings today. Good luck, Frank

I have just gotten a new in box 444 guide for my sweet 16th birthday. I know deer season is a long way off but I want to go ahead a find the best load for siad game. Out if the 3 avalible ammo makers i either want to use hornady or remington to keep cost down. which of these would be the better load for said game? shots will in the shoulder or just behind. I also like to be able to take straight on shots and quartering away/towards me so i will need good penetration also. Thank yuou very much for the. ill let yall know how it shoots! P.S. what kind of optics do yall recomend? this will be a brush gun for under 100 yards. I was thinking a leupold 2.5 or 1 to 4

I have a Leupold 2-7 on mine and it seems to work pretty well. As for hunting, I've shot a couple whitetails and an antelope with the Remington 240 gr factory loads. Each animal was killed extremely dead, but the bullets blew up and a fair amount of meat was lost. I wouldn't trust them on anything bigger than a deer. I'm pretty confident that with reloads and the right bullet, this gun would be adequate for just about anything at reasonable ranges... It is by far the coolest gun in my safe. You said it's a 444 guide gun, but I assume you meant the outfitter (444P) with the short ported barrel. Get some good ear muffs. Trust me.

I have a 2.5x compact leupold on my Marlin 45/70 and I really like it, it suits the gun and has plenty of magnification for what I want. My second choice would be the leupold 1-4....at the same token one of my huinting buddies has a leupold 2-7 on his marlin 45/70 and he is quite fond of it.

Shiloh I live in North Central British Columbia and I carry my 444 around with confidence. I wanted to have a world class fast action rifle that made sure what I hit stayed there. The way I did it was by reloads. Have a look at all the articles on the 444 at beartoothbullets.com I'm just playing with the loads they have listed there and I truly believe that they have found a winner in their 330 gr. bullet behind hodgson H335 powder. Get into reloading! it is pricey at the beginning but still worth while. I found most of my kit at pawn shops. My scale cost 25 bucks and looked as if it had never been touched. I purchased a Lee hand press for 30 dollars and it works slicker then owl poo. As to your optics, I hunt heavy bush and in low light short range shooting there really is no substitute for open sights. Even if you wear glasses your eyes at these ranges is all you ever need. Shoot the cheap 240 grain pistol bullets at milk jugs or some kind of container that you can fill with water. It's fun and the very best way to learn is to actually shoot (Duh!!) Practise lots and go to the bush with confidence. Besides it has been my experience that if you learn to shoot without a scope you generally also learn how to be sneakier too (haha) Nice little side bonus for when you are an old fart like me and need every advantage you can get.
