I'm looking for some info on the '86 proof marks. I'm currently restoring an 86 in the mid 60,000 serial range. I can't seem to locate whether or not the rifle and barrel should be proofed.

Your rifle was made in about 1892. As proof marks started showing up about 1905, I would say no.
