Hi Gents, wasn't sure where to ask this as it concerns the rossi circuit revolver carbine version of the above with 18" barrel, not a lever action...Mods feel free to move or delete. I am looking to reload for it and firstly wondered if anyone has any experience with them and what power its safe to load them to? I know +P loads are a no-no but wondered if it still leaves some room to load hotter than standard factory ammo. On the caliber itself having not reloaded pistol cartridges before I am mostly after a bullet option or two to get the most range out of the 45 colt for small game and pests out to 100 yards. Not sure where to even start... I see a lot of jacketed options like the barnes etc and also the myriad of lightweight cast and hardcast semi spitzers and so on. Thanks for any thoughts on the best way to go.

I have had great success with Meister Bullets in all my 45 and 50 caliber guns. They are a hard cast of very good consistency. I push them up to 1950fps in some BPE's. I use them in my 1911 at 700fps. I even recover the lead from my range to cast .577 and larger slugs. Great stuff! I don't have a 45 colt, so no experience there. Not sure how strong the Rossi is, but to be honest, I wouldn't bother going a whole lot hotter than standard 45 colt loads. A 250 grain bullet at ~1200 fps is plenty for anything in North America (possibly excepting brown bears) inside of 100 yards. As for bullets, a hardcast with a wife flat point is what I'd go with.
