Has anyone had any experience with the 50 Alaskan conversions on a Marlin Action? Considering either Turnbull or Nonneman. I know Wild West does this as well, but have heard some real horror stories regarding them.

Mic Mcphearson can also make them and the more powerful 510 Kodiak express also. He does very nice work. I love mine!

I have had a few conversions made in 50 Alaskan and 50 B&M Alaskan too. Stay well away from Wild West. They did my first conversion and it was terrible. First it took a year, then when it was ready to ship it took another week as they did not have a box to ship it in. Then when I received it not only did it look awful, but it would not even chamber a 50 Alaskan cartridge. I was just starting to deal with SSK Industries at the same time, so I sent it to Brian at SSK and they had to remove the barrel, rechamber it, then work the action over to be able to feed. Once I got it back from SSK it worked, but I was so pissed with it I sold it. I had SSk build one and it was perfect. Later I developed the 50 B&M Alaskan--squeeze the 50 down to .500-and SSK has done several Marlins for me, and M71s--all perfect. I am sure there are some other good ones out there too. However SSK Industries does all my work. Whatever horror stories you have heard about WWG is probably very true, add mine to those.

Thanks for the heads up. Ya, I've heard that Wild West were terrible. I was not aware that SSK worked on Marlins, but have seen some other conversions they have done, and was very impressed. I looked up McPhearsons and their price list is so confusing, I don't feel comfortable with him. I can't find info from SSK regarding marlins, so will give them a call directly. Thanks very much for the info.

You are welcome. One thing I can promise if you use SSK is that you will be pleased with the conversion, whether 50 AK or 50 B&M AK. I just had a Marlin done, SS and perfect. Mine cost a bit more as I put the NECG barrel band front sights on the rifles, that is about $300 extra. But it is worth it to me as it adds a heck of a lot of class to the gun--my opinion. Without that the conversion would cost somewhere around $1000 or less depending on what you want done to it. I have another Marlin and M71 there now--both 50 B&M AK--a blue Marlin and one of the hi grade 71s. Speak to Brian when you call.

The NECG barrel band front sight will be going on mine as well. I agree, it will add a bit of class to the rifle. SSk also recommends the 50 B&M over the Alaskan. So will probably go that route. Cheers!

The NECG front sight band adds much to the classy looks of the rifle. Going with the 50 B&M AK will also add to the versatility, lot's of good bullets in .500. Also between JD and I we have come up with some excellent bullet designs and have David Fricke CNC the bullets. These are for those really big jobs. For nearly anything you want to do the 500 Hornady is excellent.

Send me an email to michael458@earthlink.net and I will send you some load data on the 50 B&M AK.

Dwight,
I have a marlin cowboy that was converted to 50ak by Turnbull restoration. I'm very happy with the work done, they did it as requested, and finished it faster than promised.

Thanks for the info. I contacted Turnbull as one of my first choices and they told my they will not do the conversion anymore. I've decided to go with SSK Industries on this project. I will get some photos of the project at it's completion and get them here for all to see. Thanks all!

You might check with Brockman . . .

www.brockmansrifles.com

I've had three rifles modified by him and the work and his after market parts are super.
