Bloody Marlins everywhere, so here's a Win 94 30-30 story. The 3 I've had were so so accuracy wise. The one I've now got is a 67 rattler, but I've had it on the range at 300 yards and walked it into the V-bull. Sure it would have walked it's self back again but I know when to quit. But recently it seemed to be "off colour". I had changed powder, front sight, bullets,(Sierra 1sts to Sierra 2nds) etc but all seemed to go well except "sometimes". One thing I'd started doing is loading up the magazine, even for testing/target shooting. Even that seemed OK most times. But then I definatly started shooting as the rifle would be if I was out to do some damage. One in the chamber 1st., then 7 in the mag. I didn't think much of it, except about then something funny started happening. Took me a while to figure it. Today I believe I proved it. Usually the 1st shot with 8 up would be about 5" low at 50 to 65 yards. The next two would be about 1" apart on elevation. If I let the thing cool, same thing would happen even with a dirty barrel. The thing is I had also topped up the magazine, so today I got smart. Fired 2 with the mag empty, both togeather on elevation. Good. Then topped up the mag with 7 and one in the chamber. Barrel warm and dirty and sure enough 1st shot was 5" low. Next shot with only 6 in the magazine was back up on elevation. Looks like I've got a 7 shot carbine instead of an 8 shot. But if that's what it takes. . . Bit long winded, but surely we're sick of Marlin this and Marlin that arn't we??

Another Win. 94 story... I've got a M94 "Trapper" 30-30 that shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yds with just about any ammo you put into it. The downside is with the 16" barrel even 150g ammo barely makes 1700fps according to my chronograph. I think one of the reasons it's so accurate is the diameter of the Trapper barrel. When chambered for 30-30 it becomes a very stiff "bull" barrel since the same diameter and contour is used for the large bore 44 mag and 45 Colt Trappers. But, what good is a very accurate, but low powered, brush rifle?

Serves you right for having a chrono. If you didn't know the vel. I'm sure it would drop "little" deer and "medium" pigs out to "nearly" 100 yards. A well placed shot works wonders. Cheer up, at least you have a Win.

hi ya jal, at our house we have 2 win 94's plus a marlin 336w. they all shoot 1" to 1.5" groups at 100yds.This is with open buckhorn sights and off hand. Ya gotta love them win 94's. with my loads, a 173gr cast is running the fareway @ 2100fps. not bad for cast. Dave when in rome, punt

Heck, that's some shooting. I'm sure I couldn't do that off a bench, with a peep, and copper jacketed at even 50yards. And my lead effort was worse still. What era/models are they?

my wife's 94 is a 1962 win94 w/ a new barrel. my daughter's win 94 is 2000 win 94 side eject. wife's has only 150 rounds thru it, daughter's only has 75 rounds thru it. my 336 has 250 rounds thru it. it's a 1997 336W.w/ see thru rings, bushnell 3-9pwr wide angle. they are all very accurate. I won't go into what others we have but no problem having ammo. Dave when in rome, punt

I have an old trapper and the inside of the barrel looks like the inside of my chimney, but it shoots an inch off the bench, won lots of iron shot turkeys with it. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com
