Has anyone used a M94 30-30 lever with a Williams side mount ? I just inherited one with a scope sitting above and on the left side of the action. could be heck getting it zeroed??? any experience would be appreciated. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

Since yours is already drilled, I won't have to rant about how doing that reduces the value of any pre 64 rifle by at least half. Now, zeroing is no different than any other scope. We have been using off set scopes for a long time; look at the M1C and D from WW2. While in theory, your bullet path will not exactly follow an offset scope, in practice, it won't matter for any usual hunting distance. Another tank analogy; can't help it but they are pertinent; the sights sit up and to the right of the cannon by about 3 feet.. And we can hit another tank at ranges, well, that's classified. Let's say that it is several times farther than any hunting shot. Just zero it and shoot; you won't know the difference. But yes, at very short ranges you will have the parallax from the scope being offset, but you have the same thing from a top mounted scope too. Just in a different direction.

They work just fine inasmuch as all one has to do is sight it in and stick the X on the deer.. I found it sorta awkward and didn't care for it, but it will get the job done..I have a 30-30 that I purchases and it was D&T'd for the side mount so I got it cheap!! I played with it for awhile and its incredibly accurate and I got it cheap especially for an Eastern Carbine ( a saddle ring carbine without the ring).. I filled the holes with black glass and stuck a Williams receiver sight on it, and I like it much better...Its a real nice gun, not worth much with the holes, but it shoots under and inch for 3 shots at one hundred off a bench, so its my truck gun and rides under the seat in a saddle scabbard. Ive shot some whitetail with it when scoped and later with the peep and two hay field cow elk at around 200 and 250 yards, both one shot kills with shoulder shots. I didn't care at all for the scoped Win. 94, that's just akin to sodomy come to think of it!
