I am wanting to rebore a Browning BLR Mod81 from 30-06 or 7mmRemMag or 300WinMag to a larger diameter. Of course I need enough barrel for it to work. Wondering if anyone with the 30-06 and/or 7mmRemMag and/or 300WinMag could tell me their outside diameter at the muzzle. Any other particulars of that particular BLR (year, steel or alum action, etc.) might also be helpful. Deke.

If I were you I would have it factory rebarrelled or sell the one you have and buy a new one in the caliber you want, sounds like less headaches and probably the same amount of cash outlay to me.

Don't know if it helps but I have a Lightning model in 300 Win, barrel measures .602" at the muzzle. It's a 2002 model (aluminum reciever of course). Regards,

Browningguy, Thanks for the info. I received the same .602" measurement from someone with a 7mmRemMag. I wish Browning would have given me these measurement and saved you the trouble, but they wouldn't. Now if someone can measure their 30-06 for me..... Deke.

This might seem like a totally dumb idea, BUT --- Instead of redoing the BLR to a bigger diameter hole, how about switching over to the BAR in .338 Win.Mag.? Would that work in your State or wherever you are? Regulations being what they are, maybe an autoloader is out of the question, but I had to bring it up. I have a BAR in 7mm Rem.Mag. / BOSS and LOVE IT. I bought a Marlin 1895 in .45-70 and love it, too! I also had the hankering for a BLR, but couldn't justify it or make up my mind on it - yet. Good Luck on your project, brother.

BusMaster007, Certainly not a dumb idea, but not the way I want to go. First I don't want to work around the issue of loading so a auto can cycle properly. I like to play allot with my handloads so a manual action is desirable. I also like the effeciency and expansion ratio of the bigger bores of the 30-06 and 338 case, so a rebore is required. Lastly, I like the quick shooting of the lever for dangerous game and woods hunting without any forementioned cycling issues. Thanks for stepping in there. Deke.

http://www.z-hat.com/RiflesCustom.htm I contacted this company about a couple of different ideas I was considering. They were very polite, informative and got back to me quickly. They may have some good answers for you. Good Luck!
