I am not a lever guy except for a M39A my dad bought in '52, but here is the question. A local shop has a nice, first year production M92 in 38/40. It has an octagon bbl with full length mag tube. The screws are not buggered up, nice bore and I would rate the entire rifle at 70%. What would be a ball park value for such a rifle? Thanks, Bob

I'm gonna make this guy an offer Monday, so if anybody has an idea of value, please respond. Is it worth $800? It really is a nice rifle. A new Marlin or Winchester in .45LC would probably be more practical, but there is just something about these old rifles. Wouldn't ya like to know who has carried it and where for the last 116 years? Game taken with it? Banks robbed with it

These things are hard to say without looking at the actual gun. Blue book put 92s at $750 for 40% finish plus another 15% for .38-40, 30% for SN < 168,000 and double for the Deluxe Model. Actual prices vary greatly. The real question is can you live with the price you'll have to pay? Are you prepared to wait for a "better deal" and go without? I probably paid too much for a unmolested Savage .250. I'm never going to sell it, I've put more money into it to fix some flaws and add a period apeture sights. I've also had the pleasure of shooting it for a couple of years now. Could I have found a better one? Maybe, but I sure am happy I got it when I did.

Thanks for the reply. It's not a deluxe but certainly sounds like it's worth $800. I reload for all my fire arms. Is there anything special about reloading for these old lever guns? Thought about a 180gr lead RN over something like 8gr of Unique or Green Dot for plinking. Does this sound about right?

$800 is about as good as it gets as long as the bore is in good shape, the stocks are not beat up and its all origional.
