My dad just purchased BLR in 300 win mag. It shoots great but we became aware quite by accident that there is an extra safe. The hammer tilts forward and the rifle will not fire. We were surpised how easy this was to move. Seems like over kill can we just titen it and not bother with it again?

That hammer folding only works in the halfcock position you will not be able to fold the hammer forward with the hammer in the fire position. I would not mess with anything on the gun . Hope that helps

I agree. I would leave it alone. The folding mechanism isn't supposed to be overly stiff, it is just supposed to keep the hammer from being able to contact the firing pin in the halfcock, folded forward position. If you still think there is a problem with the gun, take it to a gunsmith, or send it to browning.

Sounds like I have a problem. His rifle the hammer was forward when cocked and it didn't fire when we tried it.

So the hammer must not be loose it must be stuck in the folded forward position. Can you move the hammer from the folded forward position to the regular position( not cocked or uncocked just the area where the top of the hammer is supposed to move forward and back)? In other words when the hammed is not folded forward and then it is let all the way down you should be able to visually see it hit the firing pin which has about a 45 degree bevel to it on the bottom.
