I wanted a Marlin 1894 to use as a truck/tractor gun on the farm. I couldn't find one that I was willing to subject to hauling around. So I looked around and found a 336Y 30/30. It is a Remlin rifle. I checked it over before buying it and there were no obvious defects, aside from a few minor gaps in the wood to metal fit. Not too bad for a $379.00 rifle. The only problem is Remington needs to learn not to cross thread the scope mount plug screws. I mounted a Williams FP receiver sight on it. I had to drill the back plug out and re-tap the hole. Otherwise, it's a 336. It's accurate enough @100 yds and functions okay. It's a little stiff right now, but it's new. I'm happy overall.

Looks like they forgot to polish the metal before blue was applied...... Roll Eyes or it it Krylon spray paint? I like the 336Y and I hope your shoots well. I just can't get past Remlin's lack of detail in finishing a rifle.

Me too. When you compare the new ones to the original Marlins there is a world of difference. The old guns are just so much nicer in the fit and finish department. However, if the OP is happy with his purchase good for him. After all, it's his $$ and his gun.

i just got a remilin 1895 gbl and it is almost perfect. shoots one hole groups to 100 yds and almost moa to 300 yards (just did that to see whatit would do). I think most of the problems have been worked out.it is a ahame the quality went to crap for a while. it seems that when ever freedom group takes over a company it happens. I know it was the same story for Remington, bushmaster and kimber.

The finish is bead blast parkerized. I readily agree that the fit and finish on the old Marlins was much better. However, you get what you pay for. I don't think anyone will get the quality of the old Marlins in this day and time for $379. The fit, finish and quality of my Browning BLR puts the 336Y to shame. However, the BLR did cost a wee bit more. All in all, I'm satisfied with it for the price.
