Hi everybody. I just picked up a new 1895 Winchester in 405. It's the Teddy Rosevelt High grade version. I'm looking for a peep sight for it and hope to find one that uses the factory holes.
I've read that the Williams FP-71 was supposed to fit, and picked one up on Ebay but the holes aren't even close to lining up. The sight appeared to be NIB. So I'm wondering if maybe it isn't an FP-71, or do I need a different model?
Thanks

Lovely rifle!
I will look at the Williams FP on my Miroku / Winchester 1895 .405 and get back to you. Meanwhile, some more knowledgeable 1895 shooter may help you.
Back from the safe with the 1895:
The front screw lines up with your front screw, but my second one is covered by the vertical adjustment.
My guess is that it does match the predrilled holes.
Have you checked the Williams Sight web page to see what they say?

Lar,
Try rotating the sight base and look again.
On my rifle, the white hash mark is at the top rear of the action.

The mod 95 pattern 21 Win. peep sight is an awesome sight, I have used the originals on 95s over the years, and it will always be my preference..

The Williams site says:
"FP-71 For Winchester 71, 86, 05, 07, and 10. Also for Model 95 Winchester lever action and Browning centerfire lever action."
http://www.williamsgunsight.com/gunsights/FPpage.htm

The hole spacing is way off for the base that I have. Guess I shouldn't have bought it on Ebay, lol.

The contour on the back of the base is very smoothly rounded. I don't know if the picture will show it or not, but there is daylight between the contact points.

I have some regular and big bore 94s, and the hole spacing looked the same as the 95.

On the Pattern 21 sight, will it rub on the side of the rifle and mar the finish?

Well, I have a Winchester 1895 carbine with that exact sight on it and it fits perfectly. Any chance you have put the base on sideways or upside down? All I can say is... its works on my gun.
Could be someone took the one you are supposed to have and put another one in the package. The Williams peeps I have bought lately were just stapled closed, easy to open and repackage. The version for the 86 and 95 is about $10 higher cost. Not a reason to cheat you.... but there are some folks!

I have a less fancy Winchester 95 repro and the 71 Williams popped right on mine. I'll measure the spacing distance when I have a chance.

I purchased a Williams FP-71 sight from Brownell's for my Japanese Winchester 1895, and it fits perfectly.

I'm beginning to think that I have the wrong one. Maybe the parts got mixed up somehow?
I'll see if the Ebay guy will take it back and just order one from Brownells or Midway.
Thanks much for the help.
