Winchester or Olin powders are made by Primex sometimes refered to as St. Marks (the city where one of the Primex plants resides). I'm not sure h414 and w760 are the same recipe or not although some Hodgdon and Winchester powders are the same. I usually avoid powders that slow in the .30-30 because they usally don't give me the accuracy I'm looking for in that cartridge. They may do better with very heavy (180+) bullets though.

I used a 170grn HDY FN and 37.0grns of H414 and got a velocity of 2004fps. Was very accurate but not as speedy as other powders. Also 37.0grns of W760 with same bullet and got a velocity of 1964fps. Out of my M336 with 20" barrel. H414 and W760 are close but vary in burn rate sometimes. And I agree that they are made by the same company. BM

H-414 and WW 760 appear to be made to the same basic specs. However the actual powder that gets into the cannisters may vary slightly from one run to another. I haven't found that 760 and 414 vary much more between the two brands than two given lots of either powder would vary from one another.

I would agree with others that these powders are too slow for optimum performance in the 30-30. I use BL-C2/WW 748 (actually, milspec WC 846) in my .30-30 and am very happy with velocities and pressures.
