| I use the same load for my Colt Anaconda and Rossi 92. I use a 300 grain gas checked Saeco SWC, with 20 grains of H110, Winchester LP primers and what ever case I have on hand. I think of it as 45-70 lite. Jim

| Thanks so much for the response. Reading about a gas check is something I hadn't even thought of. Like I said not used to handgun reloads and then that includes cast bullets. Anyone else? |

I shoot cast bullets exclusively in my 30-06, 375 Whelen, 45-70, 405 Winchester, 45 Colt rifles at jacketed bullet velocities. Of these the 375 Whelen is the only bolt gun. Jim

| Whatever load you put in your revolver should be good for the rifle. I shoot 44 specials in my Ruger Vaqueros and the same load in my Marlin 1894.

| I feed my 44 Marlin the same loads that my Smith 29 gets but have some loads for hunting that the Marlin gets alone.

| The Marlin gets 21 grains of Lil'Gun behind a RD 265 sized at .432 which is my hunting load for it. This is hard on the Smith 29 so I don't use them in it. It gets wide variety of loads but I have found that 240 grain bullets work best in it.

| I have been shooting Blackhawk .45 Colts for years, but I just recently bought a Marlin in .45 Colt. I have 2 loads that shoot well in both. First is the Lyman #454424, that is about 250 gr. I use 9.0 gr. Win. 231, Win. brass, and Rem. 2-1/2 primers. For a heavy load I use the 300 gr. Hornady XTP with 22.5 gr. of Win. 296, Rem. brass, and Fed. 155 primer. I use a Redding profile crimp die and trim the cases each time so I get a uniform crimp. It probably sounds like a lot of work, but I think it is worth it. The rifle will keep 5 shots with the 300 gr. load under 1.5" at 100 yards. It worked fine on a whitetail this year. The cast bullet load is not quite as accurate, but is still good. |
