Does anyone have a recommendation for a lever action chambered for the 500 Linebaugh?
I suspect it would have to be custom made.

Why? A .45-70 can be loaded to impressive levels in a good lever rifle.

With all due respect, this is the same as asking why hunt when you can buy your meat at a butcher...

Exactly! The "Why" question need never to be asked when talking about rifles and calibers. The answer is, "Because"
And because the hole in the barrel is bigger; raison d'etre.

You do, but you should see the hate mail I get for saying odd stuff. Can't help it. Some people are sensitive when they think their ox got gored. When in fact, they just have no imagination. Or wit.
Not talking about anyone specific here, so please don't email me. Again.

I agree, but it wouldn't match my handgun.

I have seen these before Shelton and I suspect they are top notch, but I'm afraid to show my wife.

The BHA 89 is a solid great shooting rifle,I've taken 4 brown bears with my 500 S&W using 500gr Hornady's @ 1700fps. Albiet they were at point blank range but instant impact and death everytime!

I tend to use more than enough gun

Do you think a 50 Alaskan is any better or worse?

I shoot a 50 Alaskan and a 50-110 in a rifle and have a 500 handgun. Really, between the 3 in the field, no difference on game. In theroy, the alaskan gives a bigger diameter (510) and I get a bit more speed (26 inch barrel).

The problem I see is that single action handguns will be stronger than the usual levergun options that would be conversion candidates. As long as you keep to pressures that are safe in leverguns, a conversion should be do-able.

However BHA offers their strong levergun in 500 Linebaugh. These leverguns are chambered in high pressure cartridges and would be your best option. Not cheap though but then neither is a levergun conversion.
