When Kreiger first started to do the conversion I bought a 270 and sent to him to convert. Superb job and shot well. My intention was to take it to Africa but when I couldn't find an easy way to handle 400gr bullets I abandoned the idea. Sold the rifle a couple of years ago. Now I find there are powders and loads that make it easily obtainable. So be it. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

A decent '95 in 30/40 Krag is worth more....unbuggered......than a new .405. Why pursue the conversion?

Refinish and keep the 30-40 Krag...it's a cool caliber. There are plenty of new-issue 405 Model 1895s out there at fairly reasonable prices.

Zimbabwe, I have seen a couple of 405 that had action work and the throats lengthened and they got 2100 with the 400 gr. bullets in those Win. mod. 95s..It is not that much of a job btw.. Judge G, that posts here has a nice one built up. you might contact him. He built his on a new Win. or Browning, not sure which.
