Has any one used any of the Barnes original style bullets in 375 win. They use to make 220 gr fn but now only 255 gr flat nose.I was thinking of trying it on caribou first then maybe moose if loaded to the max with aa1680 powder .I would carry my 454 along as backup.

I doubt seriously if you would need your .454 Casull as back up to a Winchester .375 with Barnes original SP bullets for moose (either .032" or .049" jackets).

Doug Paul, one of my old friends in Edmonton and the former gunsmith for the Custom Gun Shop there, used to regularly shoot his annual moose with a Remington M600 in .243 Winchester loaded with Nosler Partitions. Seems the .375 Win with a bullet twice as heavy should do at least as well at any reasonable moose distance.

Just plink him in the boiler room at any range under 150 yards, sit down, enjoy a nice hot kittle o' tea, then go skin and bone him out.

I use the 255 gr bullets in my 38-55 and they will work on anything in North America. I would be leery of big coastal bears, but anything else would be fair game. - Dan
