Recently bought a 92 in 25- 20. Noted the rifle just lined up well...Sure enough, has about 1/8 cast off at toe and heel. Asked Scollcutter to check out his Lever guns and sure enough, they have about same cast Not unusual to find higher end old guns with cast....Anyone know positively is this is a coincidence or specified?

Interesting. Is this just winchesters of a certain era or universal? I could see that WRA had handmade a stock and it worked well, and they then went with it on the blank cutting machinery. If it’s consistent across eras and manufacturers that would be interesting…

Sorry....I was referring to Winchesters..BUT would be interesing to see if Marlins were simliar. I really doubt either company...at a certain time in history would make any special effort on cast...and Maybe this small sample means nothing.

However I have 3 that seem to have "jest a tech on" No kidding and that tells me it just happens in the whapping process one way or the other or as the cutters wear out. Interesting to know however, never noticed before your post. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

I never thought about it much, so I went and checked mine. I didn't measure them, just eyballed. My pedestrian 50's vintage 94 has cast-on and toe-in. The 94's from the teens and twenties have no cast but toe-in, quite a lot actually. My model 64 has no cast but toe-in. My '01 1886 and '03 1894 both have cast off and toe-out. Both of these have special order features, especially the '86. My 1889 Marlin has cast-on and toe-in. My 1893 has cast-off and toe-out. Maybe there was no set pattern and it depended on who was scraping wood on a particular day, but the toe-in was more common than anything else.

the 94 and its kin take to glass bedding as much or better than a bolt gun, Ive done about a dozen of them in the 94 carbines..They seem to shoot about 2" on average. Some a tad less and others a tad more. all with iron sights. My 30-30 SRC shoots an inch consistently and my 25-35 shoots 2.55 averages for 10 shots..thats worthwhile any day. All glassed tight with a roll of magazine cover to take place of a tube magazine during the process and that makes putting it back together much easier.
