Not only does their new .30-30 have handsome Marlin lines, they were bright enough to offer a 3/4 magazine. My hat is off! https://shoot-on.com/first-tes...-30-30-lever-action/ There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

It does resemble the Marlin, doesn't it? Even down to that silly cross bolt safety.

They should be cranking out some "Buckhammers" for those states that require such Hope they have finally installed rifling machine which produces something other than 1:30 no matter what would be correct. Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits

Rossi has cut the threads square instead of V thread on the rifle. This gives added strength to the Marlin design and opens up chambering the rifle in 308 marlin Express, 338 Marlin Express, 450 marlin, 307,356 and 375 Winchester. If Rossi chooses to chamber for the Marlin Expresses, they will be able to sell those quickly as there is interest by Marlin lovers and there were few made because of the Remington inability to cut the threads correctly and screwing the barrels on pointing down. So, especially the 338ME there were very few made correctly and it is probably the most useful big game cartridge ever made on a 336 action.

Buckeye, that's good to hear that Rossi understands machining barrel-to-receiver machining. TC, I am one of the apparent few who find the Buckhammer interesting. Be nice to have an alternative to the Henry. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

We will have to wait and see what Rossi does, but they did do the 454 Casull and 480 Ruger in limited numbers on the Winchester 92 clone. So, there is hope.

It does have a strong resemblance to my early fifties waffle top. Not a bad thing to emulate. "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind..." Hosea 8:7

I have my fathers 1951 336 in 35 remington, I will never give that one up. Fine made gun. The XLR series was the same version but in stainless/laminate. I think this one will be a success. Henry makes a good product, but the just look a bit odd to me.

Nice looking rifle, like Tom I'm not too fond of the stock. Some good Walnut would probably look better but I'm sure would make the price go up also. Steve........... NRA Patron Life Member GOA Life Member North American Hunting Club Life Member USAF Veteran

Not as strong or as effective as a Winchester or Browning .348. These earlier rifles also had no useless extra safety, which can be dangerous. And the original designer of the Browning 1886 was : John Browning. No exras, just quality. Avatar

There is no room for improving many of the old guns like the 1911, Browning Hi POwer, win.94 and its git, 99 SAvage, pre 64 Win mod 70, just "tinkerers" trying to replace easy production guns out of plastic and soft steel and cold blue! I think hey hit the jackpot for ugly buttstock shape. Point is...why? and that "stippling...why boher...Never knew anyone who drpped a rifle beause it DIDN'T have checkering. Better to just leave it plain rather than look at crap like that

If we want to talk about shockingly ugly, boys, let's talk about the pathetic Henry revolver. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

It has been greatly improved. A new 1911 will feed better be made of better steel, have better sights, a better safety. Just off the top of my head.

I've been wondering if Rossi's quality on the Win Mod 92 clones has gotten better.

Agreed 100% Ray. I have been tinkering with a Winchester 1886 in .33 WCF of late. Granted, the cartridge is no barn burner, but the rifle is strong as hell, and I think a modern 1886 in .45-70 would be hard to beat. Merkel 140A- .470NE Beretta Vittoria- 12 Ga. J.P. Brain Pearce wrote an interesting article on the Rossi .454 Casull in either RIFLE or HANDLOADER magazine and he praised the fit and quality in that article.
