to what i gather, the 30/30's and 35 rem.are still micro-groove rifling and i believe the .22's are also...micro groove for 30/30 and 35,.22 are fine, the bigger bores with cast bullets implements the need for ballard type rifling, course a faster rate of twist for the 44 would be better in my opinion,1in38"will handle up to around 300gr.bullets,after that they start to keyhole/destabilize,1in20"twist like the 444 would be ideal i think......just my opinion as a 44 shooter....

nc34hunter, Thanks for the reply. I was confused since I've read posts were someone claims to have a .444 with micro-groove. And I agree with the 1 in 38 twist not being the best for the heavy cast bullets although mine will stabilize the 270 Gold Dots and a few sample 300 lswcs I tried in it (fast). I've started casting the Lyman #429421 245grn Keith type bullet in mine and just love it. Was a little supprised that mine will cycle the 1.690" to 1.700" OAL alright though. BM Bill

From what I have noticed Ballard rifling marked barrels have ***** while the other barrels are marked in lettering MICRO GROOVE. There are pro's and con's for both.
