I shot this buffalo in the SAVE Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe early August 2013. The rifle is a take-down BLR, originally chambered in .300 Win. mag. I had it rebarrelled to .375 Ruger. I really like the gun and it has MOA accuracy upon each reassembly. I'm wondering who else has shot a cape buffalo with a BLR?

I know Vince Lupo has shot all of the Big Five with a Marlin 1985 and Garrett ammo.

I always wanted to shoot the big five with a .45/70 lever gun, just ran out of time, money and health....

Congratulations on a great looking bull! He's a monster.

friar- I used Hornady DGS 300 gr. First shot went through (heart/lungs) broadside; fired 3 more as it was angling away. One lodged in heart muscle, two others retrieved under hide in front brisket. I realize these bullets have recieved some critical feedback, but they performed flawlessly for me.

So leverguns can be used on DG?

Oops! Forgot this one taken in 2009 by My friend Josef Riekers with my 1886 45-90.

And a big kitty taken with 45-90 300 grain Nosler PP.

cr- nice animals! All fell to the mighty lever action! As far as I know, so far, my cape buff is the first killed in Africa with a BLR...Maybe Browning will make me a spokesperson & I'll get a free logo ballcap!? LOL!

Joe, that makes sense to me now that I re-read your introduction a little more carefully. At first blush I thought you'd killed it with a .300 WM!

Now, Hemmingway used 220 gr. solids on a few buff; but a 300 gr. Ruger .375 is a whole lot more gun!

Thanks & best wishes,

friar
