Ray A. and all,
I just remembered this .45-70 in Africa link and thought to toss it in. That scoped 1886 is one slick lever gun:

That 86 with a scope is positively hideous. If you want to scope a lever action, use a Marlin. Leave the 19th century rifles as they were intended to be. Receiver sights work.

DPCD,
I know you are pulling my chain! Cut me some slack. And if you could handle this rifle, you would not make such remarks.

The owner bought two identical Miroku 1886 rifles and outfitted them the same:
Quick release scout scopes,
Quick release peep sights and,
The original barrel sights.
Those rifles have taken many critters in many places. They are highly functional in many different environments and situations.

Those that do not care for the scoped 1886 Deluxe EL, probably will also turn up their noses at this scoped 1895!

Or for one with gold and silver trim!

I don't mind the look of your scopes CR but were I to put one on my 86 with the full-length magazine, and fill it up, the balance would dreadful.

MY 1886 45-90 TD is not scoped, nor will it be!
Folding Marbles tang peep and barrel sight suffice.

Plus, the scoped 1895 .405 belongs to an Australian friend that has taken big game there, Africa, and America. He is also 6'5", owns his own gun store, and for my money, can scope any rifle he desires. Wink
