I have a Savage 99C that will not feed from the magazine. Is this a common problem?

It would help if you gave more info. What caliber is it? Is the magazine the correct mag for the caliber of the gun. Is the mag damaged or modified in any way. How and where is the cartridge hanging up. Did you just acquire this gun, or have you had it for years and it used to work fine, but now it won't? If you just got it and it won't feed, my first guess would be that someone put a replacement magazine in that is for the wrong cartridge.

Take it to a smith, feeding is hard to analize with the printed word..many things can mess up a clip fed firearm, but the good news is its usually a minor problem for an on hands gunsmith.

Actually I am going to take it to a gunsmith tomorrow, I also ordered a new magazine from gunparts. I wanted to know if this feeding problem was promlimatic with the 99 C

Only a sample of one, but my .308 99C feeds fine out of the factory magazine and the one aftermarket I have. Mine is a last production run rifle.

99 times out of a 100 when a clip fed gun fails to feed its the clips lips have been bent or what ever..It almost has to be the clip it seems to me...You must have a very busy gunsmith.. Eeker

I first got a new clip from Gun Parts and tried that and it was worse. Did some research and found that in some cases that where the barrel comes into the receiver was not finished correctly. It should be smooth. With that in mind I took it to the gunsmith I use and without telling him about my research asked him what he thought. I had some dummy rounds and he exercised it and came to the same conclusion that it needed smoothed around the barrel and receiver. He can get to it in June. Hope this will fix it.

Probably right if its not the clip..many 1911S and auto pistols need the throat smoothed or opened up..That's an hours job with some hones as a rule..Good luck.
