Local gun shop has two of these on the rack. I don't know much at all about these guns but one is in very good condition. They are asking $1500. What think ye?

They aren't 99 G's, which were discontinued long before the appearance of the .284. Do they have removable magazines? If so, they are C's and would be way overpriced for me.

First I'm not a Savage 99 expert by any means but I have owned a few and appreciate them. Even a C in .284 does command a premium price. They are very desirable and lots of people want one. But I can't say what a good price would be other than trying to search around for others and comparing.

A C will fetch $800 to perhaps a $1000 in 284 but not to a real Savage expert...A 99F 1950 ish can fetch from $2000 to $2500. I missed a 250-3000 for $750 last week, damn near busted my prostate. Sold my last two 250s in that F model for $1650 and $2150. 99s are holding their own and going higher and higher..284s are the best money makers followed by the .358 and 250 Savage, but the 308 are getting scarce..

I bought a 1955 vintage 99F (first year for the model) in 250-3000 at a gun show two years ago for $750. It's in good shape and is a good shooter. I bought another 1955 vintage 99F in 300 Savage from a 92 year old shooting buddy for $550 a year before. I haven't seen prices as high as you mention around here. I guess I should be happy.

You can sell your 250 on the internet, Guns International for good money..Best bet is pawn shops where a Savage is a Savage...The 99F is the best investment of the 99s..1950 was the first year of that production, and some of those guns have 1x14 twist as they were put together from Savage overage barrels, some are 1x10 and the 1x10 is worth more to the collectors...Savages in 300 Savage are a dime a dozen, but that may be changing according to my checks in GA and GI...There are some older 99Fs out there in 250-000 so be aware, they sometimes don't fetch as much and sometime the fetch more..

Ray although not a Savage I snagged a nice unaltered Model 81 Remington in 300 Savage. I really like it and it shoots very very well.

I like those 81s, heavy but fun to shoot and in 300 Savage you got the best caliber..They were selling for $375 a year or so ago, have not checked them out in a long time so don't know the going price, but they will and always have brought the most money in 300 savage caliber. same for the pumps..14 and 141.

Something that few know is the Border Patrol at one time issued a few 81s in 25-35..I have only seen one, it belonged to BP chief in Marfa, Tx George Harrison..I shot it a lot in my highschool days..and no it wasn't a 25 Rem. although the 25 REm was chambered for the 25 Rem case, and its only fairly rare in the 81., but a nice catch if you can find one in a mod 8 or 81..
