Do you know that a marlin 444 was used in vietnam war by the SOG operator mad dog SHRIVER he impoted it personally to shoot throug the pal trees trunk bunkers.Juan

Yes I read about that some years ago. Didn't he normally use a Grease Gun as his standard weapon?
I must admit, having owned a Marlin in .444 that I wouldn't have taken it to that purpose myself. Any .30 NATO/.308 Win FMJ would have had at least as much penetration on wood, especially when compared to the fragile .44 bullet loads the Marlin rounds had at that time. The gun is also quite slow to reload and has small capacity mag, but I guess if you really want to use it, these are just minor details Big Grin

A handloaded Marlin with the right bullets will actually do quite a job going thru wood, compared to a 308.....

As an owner of a 444, when I was younger, me and my friends actually use to just go out and blow trees in half for the fun on it with the 444....

one of my friends use to call it my Logging gun.....

it would be interesting reading to see how it was applied in usage...

When I was there we found or captured all sorts of small arms from all over the world, including muzzleloaders! But come to think of it, never saw a levergun.
