I'm considering putting an XS Ghost Ring on my old Marlin 336. For those who have done this, what size post front sight did you use? Also, what is your opinion of this sight as opposed to a tang sight for shooting under 75 yards for a pair of eyes that is, unfortunately, getting old.... :-)) Thanks!

If you use the XS rear sight you might as well use their front sight too. It's a post with a white line running up the middle. About the only concern I have about the XS kit (or the Brockman setup) is that it is so tall it may prevent you from getting a proper cheekweld. The Lyman (or a Williams) receiver sight and a seriously shortened Brockman post (so short it's essentially square) gets the sightline right down on the receiver of my Guide Gun. I've been thinking about trying the Williams Firesight fiber optic front to see if I can get used to shooting a bead. For close work I figure the receiver sight is sturdier (and easier to adjust) than the tang sight.

Thanks for the input. When I go to Brownell's catalog I see a variety of front posts that go with the XS sight...they vary in height and width...wasn't sure which to order for the Marlin 336. It says which rear sight to order based on your rifle, but doesn't give guidance on which front post to order.

XS has a kit selector that might help you choose http://www.xssights.com/store/rifle.html

I like the reproduction Marlin receiver sight sold here: http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,3750.htm "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.
