I just ordered a box of Hornady flextips from Midway. Anybody have some suggested starting loads. These will be for whitetail deer. IMR 4064 and Varget are the powders I had in mine

Are you sure you are getting the bullet for the 308 Marlin? I was under the impression all Midway had in stock was the bullet for the 30-30. They are not the same bullet. I have read on the Marlin Owners forum that Hornady has yet to release any of the bullets that they load into the 308 Marlin. You can check on the Hornady web page for part numbers and compare to what Midway is listing.

Thanks Bull Snake for your reply. Yes they are Hornady LEVERevolution Bullets. They became available on 12 26 08 from Midway. The flyer was source code 8257. I just got confirmed for delivery on 1 31 09. Well, I have my RCBS Marlin dies and some empty hulls. Loaded some 170g Sierra flat noses and the best group was a 2 1/4 inch. I'm kinda wondering what I can do with the real deal bullets

Dave, there are two 308 LE Hornadys. The ones on the market are for the 30-30. The difference is in the ogive and I think also the jacket thickness. Hornady's site is supposed to have the product numbers showing that there is a difference. The bullets available will obviously be useable in the 308 Marlin, but may be a bit less robust at the higher velocity. You can find this info on the Marlin Owners site.

Ok Bull I'll check it out. I'm used to loading for a .308 Win. , This is a bit more complicated than I thought . Looks like I need to study up on this project. One good thing is I also have a Marlin 30-30. Thanks for the heads up. I'll go to the Marlin owners site.

I've done some 150grain hornady interlocks at 2450 for mine. I bought a case of leverevolution and have been working on a reload with the same point of aim to 200 yards.
