Problem With Redfield Base on Winchester 94 AE

I have a Winchester 94 Ranger in .30-30 I want to scope. I bought a NOS Redfield base off eBay-- it came in the original box and reads:

511293
JR 94 AE
SCOPEMOUNT BASE
WINCHESTER 94 ANGLE EJECT
30-30 CAL ONLY

I put it on my receiver and all the screw holes seemed to be where they were needed, etc.; in other words, it seemed to fit.

I put an vintage Weaver K 2.5 on the rifle and when I bore-sighted it, I found I had to dial the scope's elevation as far down as I could go before I could even get anywhere close to having the cross hairs match the dot of the laser beam on the wall.

Now, looking at the rifle, I'm wondering if I used the right base. Even though all the screw holes line up, etc., it seems like the back end of the base is too low, or the front end too high.

I've considered putting a shim of some kind beneath the back of the base, but I wonder how much shim I'll need. I thought maybe a couple of washers, not so thick, maybe 0.05" (one on each side) might be enough

Check the ht. of your rings, many pair have a front and rear ring each having a different ht. You may have them on backwards.

I have the same problem. I bought a Win 94 356 that has what look like Weaver bases on it. When I mounted a scope with Weaver rings it hits a yard and a half low. I had to run the scope adjustment all the way up to get it close to zeroed. I tried shimming the rear base but it would put a real crimp in the scope tube if I tightened the rings.

I don't know what the problem is. I suppose the barrel could be screwed on crooked. I have a Marlin 336 that has the barrel angling out to the right from the receiver centerline.

Anyway I don't have a good solution yet. I need to fix it because I want to shoot the rifle!

Just a thought- Is it possible you are dealing with a mount that requires screws that are different in the front and back? I mention this because I bought a Weaver Base for a Savage rifle, the front screws werent catching, the rear screws to long. Took it all out, had 4 screws, 2 different sizes. Put the long screws on the front of the base, shorti in the back, it worked fine.

I think I used the right screws in the right places.

Here is a picture of the mount before installation:

And here is a picture after installation. You can see the mount is not parallel to the surface of the bolt.

Shim it! With the one piece base you should be able to shim it up without putting the scope in a bind. You might contact Redfield about it. Maybe the base wasn't machined right.

My rifle is not like that. The rings line up fine on my rifle. That is the scope is parallel to the receiver. I have a different problem.
